  • Hey all you 2nd amendment nuts. My name is Tony and I just inherited a Savage 110 30-06 from my Pop who just passed. Guess the old marine had only 1 firearm and I was the lucky guy to get it. My first Savage but I am a fan, especially due to the availability of left handed models. This is a righty, but it has 1242 on the barrel and the bolt. I cannot find any other identifying marking. All wood, no magazine. All I could find is it's pre-68, but nothing else. Any information would be helpful.

  • All the threads on the forum requesting the date of manufacture are getting a little out of hand and thus we (the staff) have come to the conclusion that we will no longer be dating any rifles with an F or later serial number prefix. This is because these guns aren't that old and the letter prefix itself will give you a relative idea of when the rifle was manufactured. The "dating" service is intended more for dating and documenting the older collectable guns that are no longer in production and were made prior to 1980. No Letter Prefix or no serial number = made prior to 1968 "A" prefix started in 1968 when the 'Gun Control Act of 1968' went into effect. "B" prefix started in ???? "C" prefix started in ???? "D" prefix started in ???? "E" prefix started in ???? "F" prefix with a serial number lower than F498821 = 1989
